A chronological path through the milestones that built Jaguar Land Rover.
1922 — Swallow Sidecar Company founded by William Lyons and William Walmsley.
1935 — The SS Jaguar name is used for the first time, on the SS Jaguar 100.
1945 — The company is renamed Jaguar Cars, distancing itself from the SS initials after the war.
1948 — The Land Rover Series I debuts at the Amsterdam Motor Show.
1968 — British Leyland forms, eventually bringing Jaguar and Rover under common, if turbulent, ownership.
1989 — Ford acquires Jaguar.
1994 — BMW acquires the Rover Group, including Land Rover.
2000 — Ford acquires Land Rover, reuniting Jaguar and Land Rover under one parent for the first time.
2008 — Ford sells Jaguar Land Rover to Tata Motors, forming the company as it exists today.
2021 onward — JLR announces its Reimagine strategy, targeting all-electric lineups for both marques.
