E-Type Era

The car Enzo Ferrari called 'the most beautiful car ever made.'

Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961, the E-Type combined race-derived engineering (a monocoque construction and independent rear suspension borrowed from Jaguar's D-Type racing program) with a shape that is still widely regarded as one of the most beautiful car designs of the 20th century.

The E-Type evolved through three series over its production life: Series 1 (1961–1968), Series 2 (1968–1971, with revised lighting and bumpers for US safety regulation), and Series 3 (1971–1975), which introduced a 5.3-litre V12 engine.

It remains the car most associated with Jaguar's design identity — the long bonnet, the feline stance — and every subsequent Jaguar sports car, including the modern F-Type, is measured against it.
